PREVIEWING SCANDROID'S FORTHCOMING 2-ALBUM CYCLE

LATEST NEWS FROM FIXT

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: The highly anticipated follow-up to Scandroid’s first two albums is here! The Darkness is Scandroid like you’ve never heard him before, as the artist unleashes his dark side across six brand new tracks. Never content to rest on what he’s already accomplished, Klayton, the mastermind behind the project, has driven his music into uncharted territory on The Darkness and given every song its own distinctive identity. From the old school heavy metal riffs of "Phoenix" to the ominous cybersynth tone of "Red Planet" and "Out of the Darkness," each entry will pull you deeper into Scandroid’s darkly cybernetic world.

In addition to the six original tracks, Scandroid has packed The Darkness with electrifying remixes from some of the most talented and innovative artists in and around synthwave today. Even better, this new release is just the start of Scandroid’s latest creative opus, The Darkness and The Light. Fans will be able to immerse themselves in the second half, The Light, in 2019, with a complete full-length release to follow.

The journey through The Darkness and The Light begins right here.

BENJAMIN NOMINET - THE VOICE OF SYBREED - RETURNS!

Finally the awesome pipes of Benjamin Nominet can be heard again, now in SHADOW DOMAIN! Alongside noted metalcore guitarist Kris Norris ( Darkest Hour ), and Static-X drummer Nick Oshiro, it's clear that the band has an impeccable pedigree. We at FUTURE-ROCKER can't wait to hear the new album, entitled DIGITAL DIVIDE out on December 21st, 2018.

BRAND NEW VIDEO FROM OBSYDIANS - 'ASCENSION' ( feat. Steve Fari )

A more downtempo and contemplative - but still heavy - track from cyber-metal mastermind Thomas 'Drop' Betrisey. It showcases Steve Fari, the third and final of his three vocalists for the studio-only project known as OBSYDIANS.

BLUE STAHLI'S ATMOSPHERIC 'REBEL YELL' TEASE!

Blue Stahli ( real name: Bret Autrey ) is more well known for his catchy blasts of crushing industrial overkill than any sweepingly evocative atmospheric pieces. However, the latter is exactly what we get here, as he and label FIXT release this spooky teaser, which we hope is ahead of a full-on rockin' version of the Billy Idol classic.

Deep-cut fans will be interested to note that this down-tempo interpretation and that familiar chord sequence makes us think of Joy Division's New Dawn Fades, as covered by Moby on the soundtrack to Heat ( which we will also include below ).

OBSYDIANS / SYBREED: UPDATE FROM THOMAS 'DROP' BETRISEY

NEWS ON OBSYDIANS, THEIR NEW VOCALISTS, AND SAMAEL!

As you may know from reading Future-Rocker's comprehensive interview with Thomas back in early 2016, the cyber-metal juggernaut that was SYBREED is no more. Ironically, interest in the band has grown since its cessation, due to an ever-growing army of admirers on Youtube, and no doubt aided by the French singer Rachel Aspe's herculean cover-version of one of Sybreed's best-known songs ( 'Emma-0' from 'Antares' which she did on the popular TV show France Has Got Talent ). It's clear that large numbers of people still listen to the back-catalogue.

With the vocalist Benjamin Nominet leaving for personal reasons, Thomas felt the focal point of the band went with him, and so decided to close the chapter on Sybreed, and build a new, updated-model, called OBSYDIANS. Retaining Sybreed's core musicians ( alongside Thomas, there is also Ales Campanelli on bass, and Kevin Choiral on drums ) Obsydians is apparently going to be very similar to the classic sound of 'Antares', with a notable exception: There will be three vocalists!

We will let Thomas pick up from where we left off last year...

Future-Rocker: Are you in the studio with Obsydians yet?

Drop: We are not in the studio at the moment, but things have moved forward a bit. We’ve finished 3 demos, and as we speak the singers are hard at work on them. We have Jon Howard from Threat Signal, Steve Fari from This Misery Garden, and Guillaume Bideau from One Way Mirror.

For those of you unfamiliar with the different vocalists and their respective bands, we have included clips below. We're pretty excited, because none of them are run-of-the-mill choices. Thomas is obviously a man of singular vision, and knows that each will compliment his writing and producing.

Obsydians vocalist #1: Jon Howard

Obsydians vocalist #2: Steve Fari ( look closely and you'll see Thomas in the video ).

Obsydians vocalist #3: Guillaume Bideau

Future-Rocker: That is a stellar collection of singers for one band. They will definitely all be able to fit the original Sybreed blueprint and bring something completely new for Obsydians. How long will we have to wait until we hear a new track?

Drop: As soon as we have all the vocals and music, we’ll record everything and make the final versions. I really hope to be able to release one of these songs before the summer! But you know how tricky schedules are, even more when you work with people living in different parts of the globe. ( - Threat Signal are from Canada, This Misery Garden are Swiss, and One-Way Mirror are French. ) In the meantime we’ll finish some more demos, we have approximatively 8 more songs to be finished. ( Continued ).

Below: Thomas 'Drop' Betrisey playing bass on tour with SAMAEL.

Future-Rocker: With singers in three different bands in three different countries, it's surely going to be logistically difficult touring?

Drop: Obsydians is not really a live band. If we’ll have to play some shows, I will surely ask only one singer to sing for them all.

Here at Future-Rocker we suspect that summer festival dates will be the most likely place to witness an Obsydians performance. You never know, more than one vocalist could be available if his other band is also playing on the same bill.

When we last checked-in with Drop, he was sitting under a palm tree in Mexico, telling us about achieving his teenage dream of joining his favourite band, Swiss industrialists SAMAEL. Shortly after that, he was delighted to be joining his new bandmates on the 2016 '70,000 Tons of Metal Tour', a yearly metal festival that navigates the Caribbean aboard a cruise-ship.

Future-Rocker: How was the 70,000 Tons tour?

The 70,000 Tons was amazing man. Really cool times, met a lot of nice people. Smoked some green in Jamaica, all good...I really hope we can go back to perform on that "boat" soon.

So you're still with Samael?

For sure I’m still with Samael. We just signed a deal with Napalm Records, and we are gonna release the new album later this year.

With the intense sound of Sybreed, and also in your guise as producer-for-hire for bands such as Clawerfield, Nakaruga and This Misery Garden, has it ever been suggested that you produce a Samael album?

Haha, the producer and mastermind of Samael is Xy, and I think he does this job really well. So the future will tell what’s gonna happen production-wise.

Cool. Any other big festival tours lined up for Samael?

We have confirmed California Deathfest on October 14th 2017, and we hope that some dates in the US will follow.

Thanks for the update, Drop. A lot of fans will be very happy to know that you've got some new music coming out this year.

Thanks, man! Cheers.

BRAND-NEW CELLDWELLER TRACK! : ELECTRIC EYE

Fantastic new track, and long overdue amongst Klayton's myriad other projects.

Can't wait for a new Celldweller album..!

CIRCLE OF DUST, RECOMMISSIONED

Hugely prolific Detroit-based electronic musician Klayton ( also known as Celldweller ) has released a new video for his resurrected 90s industrial project CIRCLE OF DUST.

CoD was originally put on ice due to complicated legal disputes with a former label, in response to which, Klayton went on to form CELLDWELLER and grow his thriving label FIXTMUSIC to produce and market his own music ( as well as that of other acts such as Blue Stahli, The Qemists and The Algorithm ).

Recalling surrealist pioneer Louis Bunuel's Un Chien Andalou, and Shinya Tsukamoto's horrifying 90s cyberpunk body-horror movie TETSUO, the video perfectly captures the aesthetics of 90s industrial music, as performed by bands like Die Krupps, KMFDM, and Schnitt Acht.

Circle of Dust has remastered and re-released it's entire back catalogue, culminating in a brand-new 2016 album, Machines of Our Disgrace. This track is taken from that album.*

*There will be a comprehensive overview of FIXT's recent output on this blog soon.

NEW SCANDROID ALBUM IMMINENT!

The greatest 80s Synth-Rock band that never existed is about to release its debut album!

One of the many brainchildren of production mastermind Klayton ( who is also Circle of Dust, Argyle Park and of course, the legendary Celldweller ), Scandroid are the spiritual gene-splice of New Romantic pop stars Duran Duran and William Gibson's Neuromancer.

The album features 15 tracks of ridiculously catchy cyber-rock, ideal for those late nights when you've got Near Dark, Bladerunner or Akira on subtitles and you want a more rockin' soundtrack to go with the visuals.

''The debut, self-titled Scandroid album features 15 tracks, ranging from the driving instrumental energy of "Destination Unknown," to melodic vocal tracks like "Awakening With You," "Aphelion," and "Neo-Tokyo," rounded out with the cinematic epics "2517" & "Singularity." As a child of the 80's, Klayton has also included a cover of the classic Tears For Fears song "Shout," that he has been patiently waiting to cover since he first heard the song on U.S. radio in 1985. The digital album concludes with a bonus remix from synthwave artist Waveshaper. The 72 minute album depicts themes of a cyberpunk future where humans and sentient robots struggle to find a connection in their dystopian world.''

The album is out on November 11th, with an early-bird release the day before, via the label website ( see below ).

'THE ULTIMATE IN RETRO-TECH'

Yes, for Eighties completists, you can also experience the album via the extremely convenient cassette format!

This and many other collectables are available at FIXTSTORE.

BRAND-NEW FIXT SIGNING: THE ALGORITHM

Anything new on FIXT is a big deal, and this French signing ( formed in 2009 by programmer and composer Rémi Gallego, with drummer Mike Malyan added in 2011 ), is no exception.
A mixture of Mathcore, Melodic Metal, and Prog Rock, The Algorithm's complicated soundscapes are perfectly encapsulated by their band logo: An unreadable piss-take of a 'Black Metal' insignia guaranteed to generate interest from the modern metal hardcore...as well as great t-shirt sales!
